Can’t Swallow Food, Can’t Swallow Pills, and It’s All Due to My Allergies???
Seriously, I think I’m just not going to eat anymore! When I eat, food gets caught in my throat and it’s hard to get it to move down. And don’t get me started on trying to swallow pills!
Recently, I went to the gastroenterologist to get some tests done to find out why food and pills are getting stuck. I did a swallow test – which is one of the worst tests ever … it’s like chugging paint for 20 minutes while moving into different positions for images and the only thing you want to do is run away as fast as you can. Yuck! 🤢 Soon, I’ll be going in for additional tests in hopes of finding out what’s causing my swallowing issues.
Interestingly, my doctor says one possible cause could be my allergies! Yes, allergies can apparently lead to swallowing issues, known as eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). I looked this up and apparently EoE is a chronic allergic inflammation of the esophagus which can lead to narrowing and trouble swallowing. Gotta love those spring allergies, right!?! 🤧
Great, so I have a possible cause, but that’s not going to help me get my food or pills down my throat. I need help! Fortunately, I found out there is help, at least for the pills. It’s a pill coating that helps pills slide down the throat smoothly and even covers up the bad taste! It’s called MEDCOAT.
I ordered some MEDCOAT to try it – personally I like the citrus flavor, though it also comes in cola and strawberry flavors, which are good, too – and let me tell you, I couldn’t believe how well it worked! After dealing with swallowing issues for what seems like forever, I’m now able to swallow pills, even horse pills thanks to this pill coating. Now if they only had this for food!
